The Rights in Exile is technology-driven legal empowerment platform, working to strengthen opportunities for displaced people to secure protection and access their rights. By developing and centralising resources for legal practitioners and refugees, we promote and strengthen the legal protection of refugees worldwide.

The platform was founded by AMERA International. Sharing the same vision as AsyLex —to provide access to justice for asylum seekers and refugees through free legal advice— AMERA International had to cease its services, presenting a clear opportunity for AsyLex to take over this platform by July 2024.

AsyLex is a non-profit organisation empowering asylum seekers worldwide with online legal guidance. It is our vision that every asylum seeker has access to justice, up to and including the international level.

Over the next months, AsyLex will focus on building capacity and restructuring the management of the platform. In the spirit of Rights in Exile’s establishment by Barbara Harrell-Bond and colleagues as a global movement for refugee rights, AsyLex aims to create a collaborative management model for the platform, where individuals and organisations from the refugee legal community can join forces and contribute to enhance the platform’s resources and reach.

Our aim is for this platform to educate asylum seekers and refugees about their rights, paving their way to access justice, and to connect legal advisers in the asylum context globally, fostering closer collaboration and more efficient information sharing, ultimately building a closely connected and sustainable legal community.

We want to thank AMERA International and everyone who has been a part of building the Rights in Exile platform. We are excited for the opportunity to keep this invaluable resource alive!
